- First Aid: Signs and Symptoms of Acute Ethylenediamine Exposure: Acute exposure to ethylenediamine may result in cough, difficulty in breathing, irritation of the lungs, and pneumonia. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are often seen. Contact with ethylenediamine may result in redness, pain, irritation, and burns.; Emergency Life-Support Procedures: Acute exposure to ethylenediamine may require decontamination and life support for the victims. Emergency personnel should wear protective clothing appropriate to the type and degree of contamination. Air-purifying or supplied-air respiratory equipment should also be worn, as necessary. Vapor-phase ethylenediamine is degraded in the atmosphere by reaction with photochemically-produced hydroxyl radicals(SRC); the half-life for this reaction in air is estimated to be 6 hours(SRC), calculated from its rate constant of 6.3x10-11 cu cm/molecule-sec at 25 °C(3) using a structure estimation method(3).
