Carnosine is a dipeptide that is the N-(beta-alanyl) derivative of L-histidine. It has a role as a geroprotector, an antioxidant, an antineoplastic agent, an anticonvulsant, a neuroprotective agent, a mouse metabolite, a human metabolite and a Daphnia magna metabolite.
