Hydroxylammonium nitrate (HAN) is the salt of hydroxylamine and nitric acid. It is being developed as a potential rocket propellant and is sometimes used in nuclear reprocessing as a plutonium reductant. Nitrite is a toxic compound known to cause methemoglobinemia.
